Architecture

At our Architectural Design Unit a project begins with the development of our employer’s brief. Our bespoke solutions...generated from a direct response to site topography and orientation, local materials and detailing, contractor’s skills, client’s expectations and users’ needs...result in sound buildings and fine architecture.

We subscribe to the notion that artful unfolding of organised space is essential in creating pleasing buildings and landscapes. We are enthralled by sequences of spaces in different stages of definition...excitement stimulated by expanding and contracting spaces, vanishing floors, pedestrian over-passes and the judicious absence of ceilings.

We are convinced that the only significant materials in the creation of good architecture are gravitational force, light and climate, possibly in that order. This unit is complimented by a remarkable in-house Structural Design Unit which supports our intentions.

Above all, we believe that any intervention into an existing context must be sensitive. In proposing these interventions we are equipped with our appreciation of Ruskin’s nineteenth century philosophy of truth in use of materials, as well as the social and economic invention of twentieth century functional modernism.
